Season’s grand finale ATMA sold out in Moscow

On Nov 29 Samadhi and Ananda Monet presented the full evening program of the Mahabharata-themed performance ATMA at a sold out ZIL theater in Moscow. The powerful Russian team of the Kirtan and Art Foundation led by Natalia Fedotova and Shaktyavesha Avatara Das had worked vigorously on setting up a grand event in Russia, aiming to introduce Ananda and the Samadhi Dance Company to its Russian audience through their unique collaboration that is ATMA. Samadhi’s director Sundari was looking for ways to close off the company’s 10-year anniversary season with a memorable finale, thus ATMA seemed to be the perfect project for this occasion and the team felt fired up preparing thoroughly for this extraordinary happening.

ATMA is an enthralling music and dance creation based on the epic Mahabharata-themed music album ‘Inevitable Time’ by vocal artist Ananda Monet. The performance is choreographed by Vraja Sundari and performed by dancers Vraja Sundari, Sarada Sarita Keilman, Lila Magnin, Jeffrey Stuut, Gaura Nataraj and Mats van der Mark to live vocals by Ananda.
The album was released on May 28 of 2015 at the Camden Centre in London and the full evening dance creation premiered on December 11 of the same year at the Meervaart in Amsterdam. Over the last few years ATMA has been performed in the
UK, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Bulgaria and the company was now given the opportunity to perform the work in Russia.
Unique to this occasion was the thorough dedication and tireless work of the dynamic duo of the Kirtan and Art Foundation who managed to set up numerous interviews and campagnes, creating a strong network of organisations agreeing to contribute to the realisation of the project. It was a very humbling experience to have such a dedicated team believe in our work so strongly.
Arriving in Moscow the ATMA team worked non-stop to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together and finalise the 1+hour show. The vibrant energy could be felt in every aspect of the work and it was clear the hype had begun and it was going to be something extraordinary. However, to find out that the show had completely sold out, and that the theater even added an extra row, filling an 888-seats venue with 900 people, left us completely speechless! The admiration we felt for the Russian team who had made this happen was just immense!

Once the actual show started, we all entered a trancelike zone and became part of something much bigger than our minds could comprehend. At the end of the show, seeing the faces of the audience, we were all just deeply moved… so many exuberant expressions, tearful eyes and generous smiles of appreciation, we were left speechless. The wave of appreciation and deeply touching feedback made the emotions run high.
When you work with such focus, dedication and drive you simply can’t believe when it all comes to an end and to witness the work transferred to the audience in such a profound way left a deep impression on us. Not to mention how much the entire ATMA team had captured our hearts with their incredible mood, genuine dedication and impressive achievements.

Short previews of the performance will follow and new plans are currently being discussed to continue our cherished partnership with the Kirtan and Art Foundation. And more new projects are making its way! But for now it’s time for a well-deserved break, to enter 2018 with more faith and power than ever before!

Next performance is a special solo to be presented by Vraja Sundari from Samadhi’s successful production ‘Hanuman‘ at the New Years Festival of Villa Vrindavan in Florence, Italy on Dec 31. A very special occasion and one of Sundari’s all-time favourite places so we are very much looking forward to this!
For now wishing everyone a most inspiring, loving and truly invigorating Holiday season! May your light inside keep your heart warm, your mood bright and your hopes strong for all days to come!
