Tusta – Cleansing the Heart

Tusta’ – Sanskrit for ‘dust’- is a crossover dance performance in collaboration with Chilean paper-artist Carolina Larrea, Indian composer and sitar player Surajit Das, Indian tablaplayer and singer Sandip Bhattacharya,  singer-songwriter Charan and costume brand Airfashion by Leo NG (Hong Kong).

‘Tusta’ deals with the concept of detachment and breaking habitual patterns which block growth. The structure of the performance is inspired by the principals of the Indian music form known as the ‘raga’ in which the musicians improvise within a set structure, specific notes and a certain topic. In ‘Tusta’ the physical dialogue of the dancers form the dialogue of ‘notes’ and their ‘topic of discussion’ is detachment. Besides the introduction of the set elements the majority of the performance is improvised by the skilled dancers, making the work an intimate and genuine experience for both the viewer as the performer.
